Southern Cross Party Ltd aims to remove the development of policy and regulation from the government bureaucrats and place it in the hands of the elected members the electorate, peak industry groups and Southern Cross Party Ltd; we will promote community input at every opportunity.
Southern Cross Party Ltd will reduce the size of the public service over a ten year period, this will be carried out by natural attrition, we will amalgamate some departments and remove others, this downsizing will produce less government administration and more available revenue for services such as health, education, law enforcement and a host of other projects, this will not mean a reduction in government employment rather a reassignment of human resources from administration to service providers i.e. Doctors, Nurses, Police Officers, Teachers etc.
Southern Cross Party Ltd will be seeking support from the Australian people to represent them at all levels of Government, Federal, State and Local, we believe that the Australian way of life is under threat and we are losing our heritage, current political parties are ‘self serving’ where the elected members are puppets of the party machine and the wishes of the people of Australia are being ignored, Southern Cross Party Ltd will reverse that.
Structure: All elected members must represent the electorate first and foremost and be independent from the party in the parliament; members will vote on conscience or at the direction of the electorate, this is an essential part of the new party structure and will be the cornerstone of our concept
Endorsed candidates elected into office and voted by their peers into leadership positions will hold office for two terms only, the position then becomes vacant and a new leader is elected, this applies to Federal and State Government as well as the party executive. (Prime Minister, Premiers and all Party Presidents (Branch, State and Federal) this will to some extent address the problem of cronyism.
On being elected to Government the need for strong and decisive leadership from the elected members will be necessary to stop the bureaucracy dictating policy, legislation and regulation to the elected government and the people of Australia. (This is critically important)
Members holding ministerial positions will be responsible to the party’s national management outside the Parliament, not the government department power-brokers and bureaucrats.
The elected member’s performance will reflect on the party’s ability to maintain credibility in the eyes of the Australian people, for that reason guidelines and protocols to protect the integrity of the party will be developed.
Two separate codes of conduct for the elected members will be put in place to define their obligations to the party and to the electorate; neither code will be in conflict with the other.
The elected members will be bound by the party constitution; they will also take into account the party platform, principles and charter in developing all legislation, regulation and policy for the Australian people and industries.
